SLOW LIGHT

Slow light (2022) - ephemeral space

A LIGHT INSTALATION FOR LLUM BCN

Born from a multidisciplinary team, Slow light is a project denouncing our dependency on electricity and energy. During 2022, the prices of electricity in Europe were multiplied by 3 due to the crisis it was going through.

As a response, we decided to create an instalation for the festival of lightss without electricity : no cables, no lightbulbs.

AN INTERRACTIVE EXPERIENCE

The focus was also to create something that the public could interract with : the idea was to use the flashlight of your phone to discover a shape and colors projected in front of you, symbolizing how all of our energy use in important and how by controlling it, we could bring the stars represented closer to us.

THE STARS CLOSER

Our idea was also to bring closer to us visions from space : each projection represented a different state of the life cycle of a star. This idea came from the hint that light pollution is also a problem for us to see the actual stars.

To represent this differences, the team created some filters with CNC and resin, placed at the end of tubes reused from a previous installation, in which we added colour filters to try to replicate the star as much as we could.

SOUND AND GRAPHIC DESIGN

Thanks to our motion and graphic team, our installation had a way to invite the user in even more with sound, that was create through the mix of sounds provided by nasa as the sound of planets and stars. This touch made the experience even more immersive.

A website was also created for a further explanation on the stars, the project and the team.

OTHER FESTIVALS

After being noticed in Llum BCN, our installation got the chance to first travel to Sonar+D, a creative and musical festival in Barcelona and to Fêtes des Lumières de Lyon, a very famous light festival in France.

Having the chance to go there with a project and with such a fabulous team has been one of the most special moments of my university years.
