GIO’S HOUSE

Gio’s house (2023) - residential

A REAL CASE - KNOWING THE CLIENT

During this curricular project we had the oportunity o choose one designer we liked to create and design a home for them: mine was Gio Ponti.

This approach was very similar to what we would encounter in the professional world as we had to dig information about our client, his family, his taste and his habits to create a home that would suit them. After some research, I was able to reach to a list of necessities that would be implemented in my design.

A REAL SPACE- SITE VISIT

To create this project as similar to a real one as posible, we had the opportunity to visit an appartment that would be our base: seeing the space and being able to measure, envision and feel the atmosphere was very helpfull.

This was also an amazing way for us to learn about facilities like light, water and heating. How we wanted to impliment or change the disposition based on it, and the necessary changes that would have to be made.

A FUNCTIONAL DESIGN

The base of the design was to have a space that could be modified based on the needs of the user : if a space needed to feel larger or be more used, it would be an option. If privacy needed to be added while receiving, it would be possible too.

For this, I decided to use a system of sliding doors.

MATERIALS AND STYLE

The representation of Gio Ponti’s style was hard to make tribute to without copying. I tried to make a space filled with peace, flexibility and for family time. I imagine he would use some of his works in his place such as the bold ceramic tiles, some details of wood and some of his chairs.
